need advice/newly diagnosed

Postby angelina » Mon Jan 25, 2016 10:24 am

Hi Everyone,
My eight year old son was recently treated for KD with one IVIG treatment and aspirin. He has been home for 2 weeks without any problems aside of being a little tired, dark eye circles, and a few other small things that I would consider benign. We take his temperature frequently and he had a few hours at 99 last week. This morning however, he is sneezing and exhibiting cold symptoms. I'm really scared. He has no fever, but I'm wondering if this is OK so soon post treatment? Can someone please advise? I don't want to run to the ER, but don't want to brush off a problem either.
Thanks!
Angelina

hi

I can understand your worry and concern, especially so soon after being diagnosed with KD.

The ER is full of nasty viruses and bacteria, I wouldn't go there !

I would suggest calling or emailing your son's pediatric cardiologist, just to let him be aware of this and get some reassurance :)

I used to email my son's cardiologist frequently for the first few months after he had KD and always received an extremely prompt and helpful reply.

best,
nancy

Nancy,
He hasn't had his first post treatment each yet ( we are going on Wednesday) at discharge they told us just to come back to the ER if there was a concern. The cardiologist doesn't know him. They just assign you someone when the appointment is made. I'm sorry to be a pain, but I wouldn't know who to email. Our primary care is nice, but not KD literate. This is all so new so we haven't been able to establish relationships with any new provider. I agree @the ER. I'm still checking for fevers and making chicken soup. He is still on aspirin, so I'm leary of using anything other than some essential oils. Its so hard not to freak out....:(

Thanks
