Re: KD and Soy

I am new to this forum and just read this abstract regarding soy consumption and KD. My 19 month old son was just diagnosed Feb. 3, 2015 with KD. We are home from the hospital (after 3 day stay). He received IVIG and aspirin therapy. He remains on low dose aspirin until his next ECHO in 6 weeks. It's been hard trying to wrap my head around this disease and I wonder how he could have gotten such a thing. It seems like since he was born he's had health concerns. He had trouble regulating his heart rate when he was first born (his heart rate would drop to 80 BPM for several minutes). They did an EKG at the hospital before discharge and everything was OK. Then, at 3 weeks he developed colic. He would cry non-stop all day and night. He had an upper GI and was found to have acid reflux (GERD), so was put on medication for that. At 6 months, he was diagnosed with C-diff which we think he had for 2 months prior, but was misdiagnosed as a milk protein allergy. He responded well to the antibiotic (Flagyl) and it cleared right away. Then, at 1 year, when he was switched to cow's milk he developed blood in the stool and diarrhea again. Saw the GI specialist and ruled out c-diff. I had him on soy milk and almond milk and it seemed to clear. After a few months, we tried cow's milk again and he has been fine since, but I still occasionally buy soy milk for him as he likes the taste. This article suggesting soy in the diet as a culprit for KD is very concerning to me.

I don't know much about the association of soy and KD but if I were to consume soy it would be non-GMO soy, as well as consumed in moderation--

I am trying to figure out how to use this forum, so sorry. I just wondered if any of you ever linked your child's KD with vaccines. My son is 22 and had to get a flu shot for school as he is in a rad tech program, and the very next day he had flu like symptoms. It ended up he got KD. He is still getting over it but much much better. His heart does hurt sometimes though and his fingernails are raised up. Still doesn't have complete energy. We believe, as well as a few of his doctors, that this was due to the flu shot. I would like to hear your thoughts.

Hi,
My son just got KD in October 2015, he is 6 years old.
He had no recent vaccinations, and no soy that Im aware of...

In fact, there was nothing in the last few months prior to his diagnoses that we did any different than the rest of his life except for we had went to Disney World in July 2015, and bought our new house in July 2015.

I really do hope someday they can tell us the for sure causes of KD.
