HELP!! Is it KD? Atypical 7yr old

Post by Amanda2684 »

Son is 7. No medical issues. Rarely sick doesn't usually have problems with allergies...

Thursday- sore throat started...no other symptoms
Friday- sore throat worse but no fever or symptoms
Monday- woke up at 3am with fever throwing up, diarrhea and headache. Fever won't go completely to normal with mess ( fever is 102) only three up like 3x . Bloodshot eyes and dry red lips
Tuesday- only diarrhea a couple times, low grade fever. Eating and drinking okay. Neck pain and headache red eyes dry red lips

Wednesday- strep test and flu test negative..temp is 99 complaining about random body pain coming and going. Swollen lymph nodes

Thursday- same as wednesday, temp 99...behavior flucuates...sometimes he his hyper other times real tired. Same eyes and super dry cracked red lips. No red toungue

Friday- wakes up crying about back pain so we take him to the children's er. His sed rate is 56 and all other labs are normal. All viral panels are negative. Sent us home to return Sunday to recheck sed rate. Swollen lymph nodes

Saturday- wakes up sick to his stomach and sweating. Face is pale, he's real tired, no temp. Real bloodshot eyes, red peeling lips, fingers start peeling slightly (not typical kd peeling but his fingers were not like this yesterday and they have NEVER peeled before. ) Took him to children's ER. Sed rate 19 now. Doc says that his sed rate wouldn't go down within 24hrs if it was kd. They are not at all concerned about his peeling fingers and doctor acts like his lips should be worse. They're pretty bad and super red. Whatever. Doc suggests adenovirus. Slightly swollen lymph nodes

Sunday- complains about upper back pain, tired, no temp..eyes and lips same

Monday- same eyes and lips, headache most of the day. Pediatrician. Appointment his sed rate is back up again to 50. All other tests normal, blood count normal, and 4 day blood culture negative.

Thursday- complained that his chest hurts when he sits up. pediatrician ordered a mono and ANA test-both negative. Check up on following Monday

Sunday- 13 days since red eyes and lips started and they are still the same. Eyes have never had any discharge, no pain, no watery eyes, no sneezing, no cough, nothing. Eyes are actually a little swollen today. Complains of stomach pain occasionally.

???? I am going to ask the doc to do an echo tomorrow. What do you all think?

I understand your pain .Unfortunately there is no test to prove whether some one have KD or not .that's the nature of this KD. Pls go with Echo which will at least give you the comfort if come normal .Some of the symptoms seems like KD . The Peeling and red eyes are atypical KD . There is no harm in doing Echo .

He was admitted and diagnosed KD the same day as my post. We are thankful that we at least have answers.

After our son was diagnosed with KD, received IVIG and came home from Hospital 5 days later, he complained a few times about neck pains. I read and also heard from Cardiologist to keep an eye on symptoms of Meningitis since lining of brain can be affected with KD (inflammation). She had me do a test where my son laid on his back on a flat bed with his arms to his side and both legs straight and flat. Then tilt up his head and see if he raises his leg(s). If legs raise each time, probably good to call child pediatrician. Also have him sit up and have him tilt his head down to touch his chin to his chest and see if painful or can be done. if cannot be done or painful, call pediatrician.

Best wishes. I was just as confused when my son was diagnosed. We are still in the hospital but he has been treated, we are hoping that after two weeks we can go home tomorrow.
