Kawasaki Disease In Siblings

Post by monroeek »

Hello,

My 7 yr. old, son, Emmett was diagnosed with KD in March of 2011. This March both Emmett and Teagan got sick on the same day. Emmett recovered after day four. Teagan was later admitted and treated for Kawasaki Disease. Are there any other families who have experienced KD in two separate children years apart?

Hello
My son Ethan had KD when he was seven. He has a brother
who is a year n half younger. About six months after his
brother was diagnosed Ashton my younger son became very sick.
He was admitted in the hospital for three days. He had signs of
Kawasaki but on the third day with four different iv antibiotics
he started to respond to treatment. He was diagnosed with strep
and unknown viral infection..
Clearly his father n i felt he had KD but due to how we responded because we were
familiar with KD and had him being treated as soon as we saw
rash n lips n eyes ect...
He was never giving the diagnoses but we managed to get our
primary to give us a cardiology apt to check his heart which was
fine but just wanted to be sure..
So second son never had a diagnoses but felt like he had same symptoms.

Hello,

Looking for some answers on how common it is for siblings to get KD. My son was diagnosed with KD two years ago at age 3. Now two years later my daughter at 7 is diagnosed with KD. Still recovering in hospital right now. I was shocked to learn that we had to go through this again and that I now have two kids with KD. They are both doing well and looks like they will make a full recovery so I am very thankful but worried as well because I also have another son who is three right now. What are the chances of him getting it as well? Just looking for some answers, research and wondering if there are any studies I could be a part of. We are in Canada.

thank you.

Hi All,
My 4 year old child developed red rash, particularly in nappy area (subsequently began to peel); strawberry tongue; bloodshot eyes; scaly hands and feet (and face) that are now peeling - but no redness on hands and feet; never had an unmanageable temp not exceeding 38 C. but was taking paracetamol/ibuprufen intermittently during that time. Was diagnosed with thrush; then scarlet fever; after 24 hours of taking penicillen, swab was taken from throat to test for strep and it was negative. Had an echocardiogram, no evidence of kawasaki. Ten days after my older child started these symptoms, my 2.5 year old has all the symptoms.. Any ideas/gut feelings? Thank you.

I forgot to mention, above, the symptom of dry, cracked lips - sever with fissures. Thanks for any insights..
