Im based in the UK and After some advice my daughter had KD age 5 she is now 19 she was treated at the time and I was told she would have no long term issues after. She was a competitive swimmer for 9 years training 3-4 times a week for 2 hours at a time and stopped training in June 2017 since then even though she is active but she has had very rapid weight gain going up 4 dress sizes in 5 months and her body is puffy even struggles with finding shoes to fit around her feet. It is like she has water retention. She went to the doctors who told her that if it was water retention it would be very serious and sent her for blood tests they all came back ok apart form she had low folic acid so they prescribed it for her and thats all. She is still gaining weight and now has stretch marks all over her legs, arms and stomach due to how much shes gained weight. I have looked into this and heart problems keeps popping up and the fact she had KD is worrying me but the doctor dismissed it as being any concern. does anyone have any advice or words to help put me at ease.

She was never under anybody after we went home from hospital she had heart check up after 6 months and told she wouldn't have any long term effects, I'm going to take her back to GP and insist on seeing a heart specialist of some kind to see if there are any links as a lot of her symptoms could all be heart related
