Hi Diane,
Reference for waiting 11 months after IVIG before having *live* vaccines (Inactivated vaccines should be given on schedule)

Re: Vax should not be given within 11 months of IVIG for Kawasaki Disease!
Hi
The ONLY reason for delaying LIVE vaccines such as MMR and chickenpox for 11 months after receiving IVIG is that the vaccine might
not be effective and could need to be repeated later.
NO risk from a live vaccine after IVIG.

Nancy

Re: Stress after KD
Hi My son's pediatric cardiologist had very helpful "words of wisdom" that helped me :) When the acute phase was over, he told me to relax and let him do anything and everything he wanted to in terms of physical activity (He was 7 yrs old). He said the children whose parents don't recover along with...

Re: Peeling skin caused by IVIG or KD?
hi
Since the cause of KD remains unknown...there is no absolute test to say any child does or doesn't have KD
The only "proof" is in a child who shows coronary artery aneurysms on echocardiogram.
Better to treat "borderline" KD than to have cardiac issues a few weeks later !

Re: Concerned Dad needs Help/Advice
hi It is normal parental behavior to look for anything we might have done to cause our child's illness :) However, please don't blame yourself for your child developing KD ! The best KD researchers discarded the "carpet" theory of KD years ago. It was all based on one study in The Lancet way back in...

Re: Cocksackie virus and Kawasaki
hi Sorry, I didn't realize your child already had 2 echocardiograms. I doubt you will get another one :) Even with definite KD, it is 1st echo at time of diagnosis, 2nd in 2 weeks from diagnosis and 3rd in 8 weeks from diagnosis. Not at 4 weeks unless significant changes on 1st or 2nd ones. And rheu...

Re: Cocksackie virus and Kawasaki
hi Kawasaki Disease is an acute illness, children will recover with or without IVIG treatment. the difference between children treated with IVIG and children not treated is the increased risk of coronary artery aneurysms in children who do not receive IVIG. So, feeling good is not necessarily a sign...

hi It's very hard for little ones who can't talk :) The hospital experience and feeling so sick is very unsettling for all children. She is probably a bit scared at night...have you tried co-sleeping to reassure her ? Even my son who was 7yrs old when he had KD returned to our bed for a month while ...
