They are getting closer and closer to figuring out the genetic end to KD. Many parents don't want to admit this---like there is some sort of "fault" in their DNA or something. I don't get that part and all the poo-pooing of genetic research which is WAAAAAY above and beyond guesswork and is so strictly defined and unbelievably- painstakingly hard. This is not whimsy or some weird "government plot"....it is modern science at its finest. Given some more energy and time I think we will be finding more answers in the next few years as to what triggers these certain kids with certain genetics to have their immune systems respond the way they do to whatever the trigger is. So far, evidence is pointing to something viral---especially too with the outbreaks that seem to occur - in clusters with KD. As we all know-it may be something extremely common that only these kinds of genetics over-react to. Or, it may be something very rare. Whatever the case, many believe it is a cascade of events and that means that it could be several factors that present all at once. Or that one reaction may or may not lead to another, etc. There may be various kinds of KD for all we know. Seems like we all need to point to something and call it the culprit of KD, but truth be told......we just aren't there yet and there are only a few solid answers so far. That is more than we had a few years ago!!
