Just wondering, what would you do?

About a month ago, my son who is 14 y.o. (5 years post KD) recently had a an episode of lip swelling with eye redness that lasted for about two days, he also had a headache. The week after that episode, his hands had peeling skin followed by the feet peeling. It is not too unusual for his eyes and l...

Re: Thought my son might of had Kawasaki. Concerned again..

I believe I recall reading on this website about a small handful of people who have children that did not look as ill as most with KD. Hopefully the blood work also supported the doctors conclusion of this not being KD however it would be wise to request another echocardiogram at this point as the t...

Re: Does This Look Like Kawasaki's Disease to You?

I would take your son to a Children's Hospital as soon as possible. They will have infectious disease doctor or cardiologist evaluate him and probably do an echocardiogram to help determine the correct diagnosis. The sooner the treatment the better if it is KD and day 8. Also, know that there can be...

Re: 3 years after

My heart goes out to you and your children. My son also had KD in 2007 at the age of 8. He developed joint pain and was sent to a pediatric rheumatologist. She diagnosed him with juvenile psoriatic arthritis. (There is a research article that connects psoriasis and KD in the acute phase but not real...

Re: 46 year old survivor

Bob, Thanks for your reply to my question about the echo. Your story is quite unbelievable - all of those standard tests not showing damage. You are so blessed that they took this seriously and took a closer look. Thank you again for being kind enough to share your information with the community. I ...

Re: Case study of young adult with cardiac symptoms

I believe a cardiac CT can be very helpful however it has risks of radiation exposure. This article compares both tests. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19669746?ordinalpos=1itool=EntrezSystem2.PEntrez.Pubmed.Pubmed_ResultsPanel.Pubmed_DefaultReportPanel.Pubmed_RVDocSum MRI can be used too withou...

Re: 46 year old survivor

Thank you for sharing your story. It is good to see that you were cared for well and you are able to be healthy enough to be active with your family. I am wondering if they ever did an echocardiogram? Maybe that was never a test of choice for your situation but was just wondering about it. Thanks ag...

Re: Long term joint pain

My son developed juvenile psoriatic arthritis about 6 weeks after the KD. He had joint pain mostly in his knees and heels and then swelling developed. After 6 weeks of that he was seen by a pediatric rheumatologist who concluded that any swelling that lasts for more than a couple of months is due to...

Re: Is there anyone with a positive story?

Two years ago my son was diagnosed with Juvenile Psoriatic Arthritis when joint pain and swelling after KD did not resolve. He is now 11 years old. I am happy to say that this year things have greatly improved, he has been off the anti-inflammatory meds. for over six months now. He was able to play ...

Webmaster,
Is it possible for this article to be posted on the home page? It could be seen easily by those who skim the site and provide more awareness to many who are told that no further follow up is necessary. Thank you for considering this idea.

Re: Psoriasis and heart disease

Wow, yes very interesting! My son developed psoriasis due to the KD. He had a pustular type of rash during the acute stage of KD, apparently this type of rash is associated with psoriasis . ( I later read about this type of rash in Dr. Burn's article on psoriasis and KD-- it is posted on this site.)...

Re: Kawasaki and sleep apnea?

My son was nearly 9 when he had KD. He definitely had sleep problems after the illness. He awoke so often during the night,he was very restless, he had to have a fan on every night (even all winter long) and complained of being hot. His siblings were always snuggled in warm pajamas in the same room ...

Re: Frustrated with Dr.s

Beth, No wonder you are frustrated! That is unreal! I am glad that you have the support of your pediatrician at least. I hope that you can find another doctor soon. I have learned that pediatric rheumatologist's are very few and far between, many states do not even have one doctor in this specialty....
