Re: Flu Shot & post KD

The 11 month timeframe is post IVIG treatment for LIVE vaccines only (such as MMR). You said your son was only on aspirin. If he didn't have IVIG, you are in the clear with the vaccinations - live or not.
Hope this helps.

Re: Flu Shot & post KD

For any vaccinations post IVIG, you need to wait ELEVEN (11) months before you give any LIVE vaccines. Therefore, if you do want to give your child the flu shot, you should give him the injected flu vaccine, NOT the nasal mist b/c that has a live, modified virus. I personally always give my son the ...

Re: New here, need help

I agree. There are so many different ways that KD can present itself - and lots of parents on this site have diagnosed their own kids (including me). I would push for an echo. It's non-invasive, won't hurt - but could be life saving. The only issue is that since your child is only 3, he may not sit ...

Francesco's Update - 3 yrs Post KD

All- I took Francesco to the Cardiologist today and received encouraging news. As many of you know, he was one of the special babies that was diagnosed with KD at 7 weeks old. We had a tremendous struggle, almost lost him on multiple ocassions due to misdiagnosis, medication errors and communication...

Re: Length of Lovenox treatment - Long??

Hello- My son was on Lovenox twice daily injections for almost 2 years. Similar to Charlene's story, he stopped taking the Lovenox after we performed a cardiac cath and found that there was very little risk of clotting given the size and shape of his anuerysms. Before the cath, we were offered to mo...

Re: New to KD, what do I need to know?

Hello- I agree with everything that Beth and Sandy have told you. Just to give you a little perspective, it is definitely possible to see damage after the IVIG is administered. I agree with Sandy that if they saw "squiggles" they saw something that was not normal. That is likely some dilation. I wou...

Re: Working mom with KD baby

My son is doing great now. One of his anuerysms completely resolved, and the other is still there, yet very small (~3 mm). He was on Lovenox for 2 years. At the 2 yr mark, we went in for a cardiac cath and made the decision to take him off of the 2nd blood thinner and just keep him on a 1/2 a baby a...

Re: Working mom with KD baby

I did not utilize a nanny service, but I do have friends from other cities that have had great results with nanny services (you get references and background checks included, so it's worth it). I happen to live in a closed community with lots of working mothers and nannies. So my approach was to go ...

Re: FYI - teeth decalcification

Now I'm mortified...my son is 2.5 and can't sit still to save his life. Should I take him to the dentist now? He got KD at 7 weeks old, so I'm worried he might have this issue? He brushes twice a day, doesn't go to bed with anything, and his pediatrician has never noticed anything. Should I take him...

Re: Working mom with KD baby

Hello- I am sorry to hear that you are in the situation that you are in. Hopefully your baby will get better soon and this will be a distant memory. I did want to give you my two cents on what I did when my child got KD. I am a working mother and my child got sick at 7 weeks old. I was still on mate...

Looking for a Ped Cardiologist in Nashville

All- We have decided to move to Nashville from Miami (HUGE change for us) due to better opportunities, and I need to find a good Pediatric Cardiologist in Nashville - preferably with decent KD experience. Can any of you make a recommendation? I assume the best place for inpatient care is the Childre...

Re: Echo with sedation... any thoughts?

Yes, I do live in Miami - so I guess that helps! By the way, we also give him walks in the hallways outside of the doctor's office sometimes if it's raining. I did forget to mention that if you go this route, it is key to dress your child in a button up shirt with no tshirt underneath, that way it i...

Re: Echo with sedation... any thoughts?

Hello- I haven't been on this board in a while, but wanted to give you my two cents on sedated echos. My son was diagnosed at 7 weeks old - the first year or so of echos, we had no problems, we would just schedule him around the naptime. Then he got older and we also got the "uncooperative child" sp...
