Re: Long-term effects (Adults who have had KD)

hey swimmergirl. I was diagnosed with KD at the age of 38. I suffered a near fatal heart attack, luckily I was in th ER when the heart attack occured and the staff revived me. Reading over all your symptoms, they were all present when I was a teen. I guess this condition wasn't too common back then...

Re: Long-term effects (Adults who have had KD)

Swimmergirl, My son is 10 years old now. He had KD when he was just 6 weeks old. He had the stress test last summer. They did an MRI of his heart and then injected the radioactive material. Then they had him ride an exercise bike while monitoring his heart and breathing at the same time. They had h...

Re: Siblings with KD-after effects

Haha, yes I think maybe I was one of the first bunch who was diagnosed! It must have been about 1991. If you think that doctors nowadays don't know what KD is, you should have seen what it was like back then! I still can't believe that both of your girls got it..that must be one in a billion! I reme...

Re: LIFELONG FOLLOW-UP CARE FOR ALL

Thanks for the advice! I left a voicemail for a doc that I found on the hospital website who is listed as a researcher for KD, and also a pediatric cardiologist. Let's hope she calls me back and can refer me to somebody good..!

Re: Siblings with KD-after effects

Aw poor little thing! From what I remember, my legs were extremely painful for the period of time that I spent in the hospital, which was 2-3 weeks. I do not know if I had any at-home recovery time. I have a specific memory of telling our neighborhood friends all about my hospital stay (and feeling ...

Re: Long-term effects (Adults who have had KD)

Alan, Thanks for the advice! How was the stress test for your son? (Is he a teenager?) Running on a treadmill is very uncomfortable for me, even though I am thin and pretty active. What are his EKGs like? I will definitely keep you updated! I am looking up doctors at the Children's hospital right no...

Re: POST KD SYMTOMS FOR ADULTS??

I also had KD when I was 5 (am now 25). I, too, am ALWAYS tired. I can never get enough sleep. I have a constellation of other issues, but that is something that has always bothered me. Is there anything that they could do to help us with that?? What is the mitochondrial disorder?

Colorado events/groups?

I would love to get involved with a KD event. Does anyone know of anything going on in Colorado?:)

Re: Siblings with KD-after effects

This may not be helpful at all, but I had KD as a child (age 5) and when I was in the hospital, my legs hurt VERY much, it is a part of the ordeal that stands out clearly in my memory. The entire length of my legs felt like extreme pins-and-needles if I tried to stand on them. I am now 25, and my le...

Re: LIFELONG FOLLOW-UP CARE FOR ALL

I am so glad that I found this forum! I am now 25, and had KD when I was 5. When I was a kid, we were told that I never needed any further follow-up evaluation. I have not seen a cardiologist since kindergarten! So many things that adult survivors have said on this site remind me of me! I had no ide...

Long-term effects (adults who have had KD)

I thought I would post this in the 'general discussion' forum instead of 'stories':D Hi everyone! I am so happy that I stumbled upon this forum! Let me introduce myself: I am a 25 year old female, thin, happy, active, etc. I became sick with KD when I was 5. (Back then we called it Kawasaki Syndrome...

Re: Long-term effects (Adults who have had KD)

Thanks for the reply! I agree with you. The more I read here, the more I think that I should get in and see a cardiologist. Do you think that a Dr who specializes in congenital heart defects is the right doc? That is what I ended up finding when I started searching. There seem to be many different t...

Re: My 25 yr old son had KD at 3 years...Long term questions

I am 25 and had KD when I was 5. I am also always cold and get sick easily, and seem to stay sick forever! If your son has psychological problems, I would guess that it is either completely unrelated, or that the stress of a childhood trauma (and seeing you really upset/traumatized) perhaps set him ...
