Re: My son passed away

There are no words for the loss of a child...but, know that my mother's heart goes out to you in your tragedy.
I cannot imagine what you are going through...but, hope that memories of his life with you live in your heart
forever and somehow sustain you in your grief

with deepest sympathy,

Re: Was anyone's initial rash very itchy?

hi

I've never heard of the KD rash being itchy...but, an eval by a pediatric cardiologist might
be worthwhile :)

Re: Can symptoms come and go for up to a year?

hi

that sounds unlikely...Kawasaki Disease is an acute illness that begins and ends with or without treatment.

Re: law suits for kd kids..

hi just my two cents... 1- there is no diagnostic test for Kawasaki Disease (impossible since the cause remains unknown), so the original urgent care center couldn't have tested for KD anyhow 2- I suspect being told if you hadn't taken him to the 2nd clinic, he might have died was a huge exaggeratio...

hi

IVIG does not last for a year ! I think you need to be talking to pediatric cardiology, not the infectious disease docs !

Re: New to KD

hi

I would just call her pediatric cardiologist and ask :)
I'm not implying it is serious, I just remember those extra calls and emails that provided so much peace of mind!

Re: Post-treatment symptoms

hi

My son's pediatric cardiologist says that it takes at least 8 weeks for bloodwork values to drop back to normal levels, which
is why he doesn't do any follow up blood tests until then :)

So, I wouldn't worry right now at the end of January :)

take care

Re: Post-treatment symptoms

hi

Emailing his cardiologist is exactly the right thing to do ! I used to email my son's cardiologist frequently in the first
few months after he had KD and a few times a year after that for several years :)

Please let me know what he says !

Best,
Nancy

Re: Post-treatment symptoms

hi Jessica, Please don't apologize ! Asking questions is very important :) Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think your son was diagnosed on Dec 10th ? If so, I wouldn't expect him to be back to his usual energy or style of playing until maybe the middle or end of February. It seems to take kids about ...

Re: Post-treatment symptoms

hi Sounds like he has a good cardiologist ! It is hard for mothers to stop worrying....I used to email my son's cardiologist frequently for a long time :) But, it does get easier over time ! My son is now 22 yrs old and runs 10 miles a day, every day, all year round for fitness and played very compe...

Re: Post-treatment symptoms

hi To be honest, these are questions for his pediatric cardiologist :) In my experience with my son who had an enlarged coronary artery that resolved within 3 months, his pediatric cardiologist gave him permission and encouragement to return to all his normal activities. He was 7 yrs old, so that me...

hi

Transient joint pain occurs in many children with KD. It resolves without treatment, usually within 4-6 weeks.

Re: Post-treatment symptoms

hi I'm not a medical professional, but there are several articles in the medical literature indicating abnormal liver function tests as being fairly common during the acute stage of KD. I think you said he was diagnosed on Dec 10th ? If so, that's only 12 days since diagnosis and many lab values wou...

Re: Post-treatment symptoms

Hi Jessica, I didn't realize you weren't in the US, I apologize. You mentioned "Sick Kids", are you in Toronto ? One of the best KD docs in the world, who does a lot of KD research, Dr. Brian McCrindle is at Sick Kids. I'm glad to hear your son is feeling more like himself...it really takes about 2 ...
